Dear parents,
Welcome to Shelby Hills Early Childhood Center! We are so happy to have your child here with us for this school year! We are looking forward to a great year and are excited to see your child grow and learn while they are here at school. First though I would just like to give you some information about myself and our classroom assistant, Nancy.
My name is Megan Young. I will be your child’s teacher. This is my fifth year of teaching here at Shelby Hills. I graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2006 with an Early Childhood Degree and I completed my Master’s Degree and Prekindergarten Special Needs Endorsement from Wright State University in 2009. My husband and I live in Houston. We have a one year old daughter Amber who keeps us very busy and entertained! Nancy Pleiman will be our classroom assistant. She has been working at Shelby Hills for five years and prior to that she worked over at day care. She lives in Mc Cartyville with her husband Mike. She enjoys spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. We are excited for another school year, and we hope that you are as well!
To have a successful program many people on staff have to work together. We will have many people assisting us throughout the school year. Your child may come home and talk about more people than just Nancy and I, so I want to inform you who will all be a part of our team. Theresa will be our speech therapist this year. Beth, Jenna and Amy are specialized in gross motor development, Kristin and Lisa will be involved helping the children with their fine motor skills, and Jackie and Beth will be scheduled to help us at certain times of the day when needed. Also, once a month Julie from Amos Memorial Public Library will come to school to have a fun thirty minute story time with the children. It is a wonderful experience for the children to have the opportunity to interact with so many adults throughout their school day.
We will also be using communication folders throughout the year. We will have them ready by the second week of school. I will write to you a couple times a week so you know what we did that day at school. Please feel free to write in the folder and tell us a funny story about your child, a comment they made, or something fun that happened at home. We love to read and learn about your child through you. Do not feel like the folder is only for us to write to you. This communication makes a stronger link from home to school for your child and can be a very good conversation starter for us.
If there are any special things that you would like to share about your child, please feel free to send a note or call or you can email me at myoung@shelbydd.org. I can be reached during the hours of 8:30-3:30 at 498-4565.
Thank you for your support and your classroom donations!
Megan and Nancy
